A Collector is an individual
who attempts to gather objects of related interest into a single location so that the objects can be viewed together with the result that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
The CigarCollector has
attempted to bring together a number of different objects, and of different character, that are related to the fine art of Cigar Smoking. Many, but not all of these objects are from the first golden age of Cigar Smoking (1890 - 1930). During the first golden age the majority of men, and many women, smoked cigars. Cigars were manufactured in small factories, shops or homes across the United States. The art and advertising of Cigars were to be found everywhere. In that golden age artisans were available to create beautiful boxes, signs, and images to market the millions of cigars that were made by hand by other artisans to please the taste of the gentleman smoker.
The current golden age of
Cigar Smoking may be less universal than the first, and the artisans may be less available, but the Cigars are better, we still have the art and ephemera of the past to enjoy, and we have the modern technology to bring the joy and beauty of cigars into every home. |
